Iloilo City day Tour on Foot

Iloilo City was called the Queen City of the South. It was the last Spanish-colonial capital of the Philippines when Manila surrendered to the United States of America. Read more.

I scored a super cheap flight to Iloilo, thanks to Tiger Airways, worth 400+ pesos back and forth. Sadly, it was only for a day. Our flight to Iloilo was 6:00am and our flight back is 8:45am the next day.

Iloilo  has a clean and huge International Airport. Outside the airport, there are taxis and public vans transport to Iloilo City and will take you to SM City Iloilo. Taxis ranges from 300-350 pesos while vans to SM City is 50 pesos only.

What we want to do first is to go to City Proper. We rode a Jeep going to City proper for 7.50pesos and our first stop is Museo Iloilo. Since it is too early in the morning and the Museum opens at 9:00am, we decided to walk going to La Paz market. Armed with our Map, we first visited Madge Cafe.

They make great coffee and super cheap too.

We tried their Vanilla iced coffee worth 40 pesos and i bought me a donut for 12 pesos only. Cheap breakfast it is.

After breakfast, we headed to Netongs Batchoyan for early lunch.

They serve Original batchoy for 50 pesos only. Yuhmmeeh.

After eating the delicious batchoy, we walked again going to the Lopez's famous Colonial House, Pink House and Boathouse. As we walked along Luna St, we stopped by St. Clements Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Parish.

When we arrived to the Lopez's House, we asked the guards if maybe we can atleast get a glimpse, we were refused. Hehe. So we decided to go back to Iloilo Museum. (wasted efforts, ggrr)

We paid 25 pesos entrance fee. Iloilo Museum is small and we only see few paintings and relics.

Here are some of what you will see inside the Museum.

After Iloilo Museum, we passed by their City Hall. Then we went directy to the Biscocho House to grab some butterscotch and Biscocho.

We were so tired so we decided to catch a ride going to Molo Church.

After Molo Church, we decided to visit the famous Tatoy's Manukan located at Arevalo Boulevard. We ride the jeep going to Villa.

We asked if we can use the cottages on the other side even if there's only two of us and we were allowed. :)

the view

We ordered their best seller Baked Talaba, Grilled Liempo, Grilled Gizzard, rice and 2 bottles of Royal worth 480 pesos.

After our late lunch, we headed back to Molo Plaza and visited their Boarwalk at the Esplanade. It was a 1.5Km walk i believe that we were soooo tired we even reached SM City Iloilo again!

Endless walkathon!

After our endless walk we finally reach the end of the boardwalk and we rode a jeep going back to City proper to find a cheap place to stay in near SM Iloilo since our flight is early in the morning.

We passed by Sarabia Manor and checked how much it will cost us. The rates ranges from 1900 pesos above. Too expensive for us, good thing there's a Pension House inside Sarabia.

And here's where we stayed....

For 730 pesos, we got 2 single beds, A/C, a small tv and a private t/b. A decent place to stay for a night, it is near SM iloilo which was really convenient for us.

We are even allowed to use the swimming pool outside.

After few hours of rest, we went to Freddys bar just outside the Pension House and bought few bottles for the night.

One for the road!!

And that ends our Day tour in Iloilo City!
